Pizzeria Bros

Who doesn’t love pizza?  The Divas consider it to be a food group all on its own, and we don’t think that many people will argue with that!  We were invited to try out Pizzeria Bros, a new pizza joint in Old Montreal on Notre-Dame Ouest.  Old Montreal has its fair share of pizza joints, but we were curious to see what they had to offer to the heart of Old Montreal.

What we like about Pizzeria Bros is that they have variety.  You can choose from one of their 12 pizzas or create your own by choosing the dough, the sauce, and the toppings.  Plus, you can choose regular dough, whole wheat, or, for those with an intolerance to all things wheat, they also have gluten free dough.

“Spinach salad: honey Dijon dressing, goat cheese, walnuts” 3$ (small) / 12$ (meal)

We had two of their salads, which come in two sizes, small or meal size.  We opted for the small in both cases.  Made fresh in front of us, the spinach salad was refreshing, the goat cheese wasn’t overpowering and the walnuts added a nice crunch.

“Small Caesar” 3$ (small) / 10$ (meal)
“Puttanesca: onions, black olives, capers, anchovies” 12$

Their Caesar salad has a potent garlic dressing which we loved; we like it when the flavours are bold!  There was plenty of grated parmesan for nuttiness and salt and the croutons were bite sized, flavoured with herbs, and perfectly crunchy.  This was the perfect start along with our ice-cold beer.

“Puttanesca: onions, black olives, capers, anchovies” 12$

We loved the Puttanesca pizza and while some people shy away from anchovies, we love them.  The pizza was topped with thinly sliced red onions, olives, capers, and of course, anchovies.  They add such a distinct saltiness to each bite, but not too fishy, as most people fear.  This pizza is modeled after Puttanesca pasta with the same ingredients, it makes for a great pizza.

“Gigi: rose sauce, grilled chicken, prosciutto, mushrooms” 14$

All their pizzas only takes 100 seconds to cook and come out crispy and piping hot!  The Gigi is a red pizza topped with grilled chicken, thinly sliced mushrooms, and slices of salty prosciutto.  The chicken was tender, complete with grill marks, the rosé sauce was too acidic and the right amount of creamy, and the pizza crust was thin and crispy with some charred spots for more flavour.

“Dessert Pizza: Apple & cinnamon” 8$

Completely stuffed, the manager convinced us to try one of their dessert pizza.  The apple and cinnamon pizza is like an open apple pie.  The crust was slightly sweet and crisp, and the apples still had some bite to them, but were nicely caramelized.  Even though we were full, we put a god dent in the dessert pizza.

Pizzeria Bros is a great place for something quick and satisfying in the chaos of Old Montreal, especially during lunch or right before a show when you’re in a rush.  The service is fast, the variety will appeal to every palate, and the pizzas are delicious. If you live around Old Montreal, they deliver too!
